Conclusion

Over all I am pleased with the way that my products have turned out, especially my blog and my trailer as this was a new field that I was stepping into. I think that my audience feedback has helped me decide that I have constructed a trailer that is professional and well executed.

I think that the skills that I have used for this project will help me through life, as I now have the basic skills to edit videos in Premier Pro, which I am sure that I will expand on later in life.

Evaluation 4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Production :-
For the recording of my footage, I used my Canon 550D dSlr, the reason why I chose this camera instead of using the colleges own film cameras, is simply because I was used to using my own camera, plus I think the file quality is also a bit better, being able to shoot in HD using 18 megapixels.

Tripod :-
I used a tripod whilst filming, this was to reduce camera shake as this could have looked unprofessional if it wasn't intentional such as a point of view shot.

Post Production :p
Adobe...
Photoshop :-
I used photoshop CS5 to edit the photographs and put together my film poster and magazine, I have also used this program to create the text within my trailer. The reason why I have used this program is because I think that this is one of the most professional programs out there, and I am used to using this program especially with the experience that I gained in my first year of doing Media Studies.

Premier Pro :-
I used this program to put together and edit the trailer, I found this quite difficult at first, but by the end I feel quite comfortable with using it. The reason why I found it difficult at first was because it is the first year that I have chosen to do a moving picture product therefore I hadn't used a video editing software before. I have quite enjoyed using this program, and I think that this allow me to create more professional trailers and videos in the future.

Soundbooth :-
I used this to clear my live sound, as I used my camera to record them and I found that using my camera would sometimes pick up grainy noise and other unwanted sounds. This allowed me to take these out as best as possible. However to overcome this problem in the future, I plan to use a mic however I was unable to get one for this product.

Research and Planning :-
For my research and planning I have used YouTube to host my vlogs, where I discuss my various blog posts and my first evaluation. I have also used a flash website which is called 'Prezi' which is an online presentation software site, which is similar to Microsoft Powerpoint but more updated and modern. I found this quite difficult to use at first but when I got the hand of it, i didn't mind using it as I have used this program for my second evaluation.

Evaluation 3

I learned from my audience feed back that they were pleased with my product and they all were happy with the conventions and the plot that is portrayed in my trailer.

The only criticism that my audience had was to make my poster more obvious, however I think that making my poster too obvious would take away the curiosity that my poster and magazine cover will create in harmony with my trailer.

I had also created a survey for my audience to fill in that can be viewed here :-
http://rabbitsandcoke.blogspot.com/2011/10/target-audience-questionnaire.html

this feedback helped me decide what my audience would want to see in a romantic genre film.

Evaluation Part 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product incorporates the forms and conventions of real media products through the use of the two characters who are romantically linked with each other, you will find these characters in many Romantic genre films for example; in Pierre Salvadori's Priceless, Anne Fontaine's Coco avant Chanel and Michael Patrick King's Sex and the City.

The ways that the characteristics and storyline conforms to this type of genre is through the main plot of my story. My product follows the basic structure of a real romantic genre film, as it shows you the two characters meeting, falling in love, arguing and in my trailer the death of one of the characters and the progression of another. These conventions can be seen in films such as Coco Avant Chanel, where Coco first meets her lover at a Cabaret Bar/ Stage Performance in France, he then takes her under his wing whilst she as a person finds a place to belong, which in her case is couture making. This challenges the stereotyping of the male dominance, as the male character shown as the richer being takes the vulnerable woman under his wings. This role soon changes, as the story progresses the male character falls in love with Tautou's character, this gives us the main narrative of the story. In my story the two characters fall in love with each other at the scene they met. Another convention that my product follows is a complication within the plot, complications within real products can be seen within all three of my main inspiration pieces. In Sex and the City, the main complication is the part where the character 'Big' doesn't turn up to his wedding with Carrie. The story then follows Carrie and show's us the audience how she battles with the rejection of being stood up at the alter, as the story progresses it shows the audience that Carrie is a strong character and can overcome the rejection and also take Big back at the end, resulting in a happy ending. The storyline in Coco Avant is similar but different, and is more relatable to my product than Sex and the City, as this film shows us the main Character coping with the death of a loved one and how she is able to overcome the death, which is what the basic storyline of my film is. The way that Anne Fontain has included a complication within Priceless, is very different to my other two texts, as Pricless is very materialistic, and shows us the Female character being a stereotypical gold digger turned head over heals loved up girl by the end. The way that the complication is introduced within Priceless is through the males lack of money to charm the female.

How did I attracted/ Addressed my audience.

I made sure that I stuck to the conventions of a real romance media product, by including the stereotypical couple who fall in love when they first meet. However I have added a twist to create a more interesting plot by killing off one of my main characters.

I have also addressed my audience through the colours I have used within my trailers text, as I have chosen to use light upon dark text and background and vice versa, the reason why I have done this is because I think this colour combination is quite fashionable and the audience will be able to relate the colours to the type of film that it is.

I also attracted my audiences attention through the obscurity of the trailer, as not a lot within the trailer is given. This is so that the audience will become interested enough to go and see it at the cinemas. I have also used close ups and medium shots to show diversity through out the trailer, as a trailer that has a continuity of the same shot type will become boring to the audience, and they will soon loose interest in my product.

The People that would be interested in my media product.

The type of people that I'd expect that would be interested in my movie/ trailer.

Final Magazine Cover

This is the final version of my film magazine, the things that I have changed on my previous version was that I changed the image and position of 'The Cover' sticker, so that the image inside can be seen clearer. I have also changed the sub heading to something more catchy and female orientated.

I also added an issue number, price and date as a forgot to include this in my last edit.

Tuesday, 13 December 2011

What kind of media insitution might distribute your media product and why?

Magazine :-
The publication house in which I think would distribute my film magazine would be Condé Nast Publications, the reason why I think that they would distribute my magazine is because I think that the films and cover story and movie would be an interest in which the readers of the other magazines that Condé Nast distribute would be interested in. For example I see my magazine as being as the 'Vogue' of the film magazines, as my magazine's style and layout is very up to date yet neat and well presented, therefore appealing to both younger and older generations of the market.

Another reason why I think that Condé Nast would be interested in my magazine is because of the up date'ness of the style of the magazine and professionalism of the images used on the covers, I think that could feature my magazine within their iPad app, which shows that the publication house are also up to date with the technology that they are providing their readers with, which is why I think they would be a good publication house to be distributed by. As the correct social groups and type of people would therefore be exposed to my magazine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condé_Nast_Publications
http://www.condenast.com/
http://www.vogue.co.uk/

Film Trailer :-
The studious that I think would distribute my film trailer would be Warner Bros. Pictures, the reason why I think that these would distribute my film is because my film is of a similar style genre to the normal films that they distribute for example, Coco Avant Chanel, Harry Potter Series,

The way My Product represents certain social groups

The way that my media product represents the social groups of B,C1 and C2 is through the type of locations, actors and storyline that I have chosen.

The way that the location represents a middle class audience is by shooting in Newcastle, which I think is a very cosmopolitan city, which has a certain modern city charm to it, which is what I wanted. I think this has been illustrated well within my trailer as it is the first scene that the audience will see, therefore setting the trailers locations. I also think that this will help me attract a certain social group, because only certain types of people will be interested in the trailer through the locations chosen. Another location that I chosen, which is similar to Newcastle, is Sunnyside in Sunderland, I think this area appears quite elegant, as the houses are white victorian styled buildings with black railings, which reminds be of the colours of Chanel.

This is a photograph of Newcastle.

Scene from Coco Chanel.

I have chosen this Scene from the Coco Avant Chanel trailer, as I think this bit of the trailer best portrays the type of elegance that is being illustrated throughout the film by the choice of location. In the frame we can see a couple riding horses towards a large house, this will give the viewers the impression that the couple who are riding on the horses are quite wealthy. Even though my trailer isn't about wealthy, I want to portray I type of character, and without the location I don't think I would have been able to achieve this.

The way that my character 'Kate' helps represent a social class is through the outfits and props that I have had her wear and use within the trailer. For example the first out fit that you see Kate in is a casual yet formal chic outfit of a loose red top and leggings with floral high heels. This portrays that the character cares about her appearance therefore taking some time to look presentable and attractive, I think that this will attract a middle class social group as most of the women and men will be interested in fashion, where a few fashion trends can be found throughout my media trailer. The reason why I don't think this will appeal particularly to the social classes of D and E, and especially men is because I don't think they will be particularly interested in the clothes and the fashion as they will probably have more important things going in their life that they don't have the time to read up on the latest trends.

The ways that I think Kate resembles a strong female character seen in my inspiration pieces is through her get up and go attitude of getting on with her life after something tragic had happened. I think she bears a resemblance of the character Coco Chanel in Coco Avant Chanel, as she shows determination and believes in her passion and dreams.

I think that my character could be an idol to younger women, as the ideology behind the character is quite inspirational, and I think that more weaker females who aren't as strong as the Kate's of the real world, will look up to Kate as a character and admire her for continuing with her life and beliefs and not letting it get her down.

The way that I think my movie poster and film magazine represents the selected social classes I have outlined earlier on in my post, is through the organized layour, as I think that the cover looks quite conservative and mature, therefore attracting a more mature audience. I also think that the photographs show elegance and material wealth, as my model Kate looks well presented in her wedding dress and showing a glittering ring. I think this would persuade a middle social class to buy my magazine and to go and see the movie as it would look appealing.

Emailing Alexandre Desplat's management and agent....

Because I have used 'L'Abandon' within my trailer, I thought it would be best if I emailed the composer, Desplat's management and agent to ask permission to use the piece within my trailer.

If I do not receive a reply within the next few weeks, I will take it that they are allowing me to use the piece, otherwise they would have contacted me telling me that they do not give me permission.

If I do not gain permission to use this piece, I will use my plan B which is to use a different piece by a different composer.

Movie Magazine flat plan

Images :-
The image that I am in decision of using will be a medium/ close up shot of my model/ actor kind of looking down on her bed with her hair spread out. The reason why I think that this position could be good for this cover as it gives the reader a glimpse of what the movie is about without giving them too much information.

Colour Scheme & Font :-
The colour scheme that I have decided on using will be red, pink and white. The reason why I am planning on choosing these colours will be because the colour red will be the same as my models hair colour, so I saw fit to use this colour. I will also use white and pink text to contrast against my models clothing.

The fonts that I plan to use will be neat and well presented fonts such as century gothic, garamond and times new roman. The reason why I am planning on using these fonts is because I wan't my magazine to represent and portray a real life media product.

Codes and Conventions of my Trailer.

Iconography
The typical iconography that I will be using for my film trailer will be the setting, which I will set my film in a city. I think this is a typical setting for the genre of my film as it represents a cosmopolitan and middle class. I will also incorporate an engagement, I think you see this 75% of the time in a romantic film. Other conventions that I will use will be my two characters falling in love, a break up and one of my characters overcoming a death and moving on.

Cinematic Style
Eventhough I am not shooting in a studio, I plan to shoot my trailer in high key style lighting. This will create the right mood that I want my trailer to portray. I will also try to stay away from grungey areas within the City I have chosen to shoot in. This will maintain the cosmopolitan theme throughout the trailer. Another convention that I will use will be a piece of elegant music by a french composer. The reason why I am using this piece, is because I think it suits the style of my film very well, as it the score is relaxing, happy yet sad. Which helps me tie it in with the death of one of the characters.

For the titles and text within my trailer, I will be using dark text on a light background, this helps create a light and happy mood. If I were to produce a horror, I would have used a light text on a dark background. For example red on black.

Themes
Falling in Love
Engagement
the progression of my character as a person

Representation
The class that my trailer represents is middle class. The reason why I have chosen to portray the middle class within my trailer, is because I think this will be a great chance for my film to flourish in attracting both working and middle social classes. I think that it will attract the working class, as my film will act as a diversion from their everyday life, and will allow them to become apart of the world and lifestyle that my characters live.
The reason why I think that the middle class of our society will show some interest in my film, is because I plan to edit and piece it together so it becomes a mature and elegant piece of media.

Opening of trailer... scene 1

This is the first scene of my trailer, it's kind of rough. But overall I am pleased with the way it has turned out. The reason why the clip is of a poor quality is because I'm not used to Premier Pro yet. I plan to have a play with it throughout the week.

Quick Storyline and events - so far...

1. Male photographs the female coming across the bridge, the female drops her purse and both of them go to pick it up. Which is the moment they first meet. I plan to put this in black and white and then I'm going to use a bulb flash sound effect, and the screen will fade out to white and the title 'Memories' will appear (Black text on white) and then it will fade to the present day where the camera zooms in on to my female which is the start of scene 2.

2. My female realizes she was just dreaming and wakes up and picks up a *camera* that male uses in the first scene. I thought it more appropriate if I used the camera instead of the shirt, as it will allow the audience to connect with the male character's passion and hobby. I plan to use the same shots, however when Kate is looking out the window I am going to get her to press the shutter button. And I will use a camera click sound effect and a fade out to scene three...

3. Scene three will be a montage of several memories of the couple. I was planning to do 4 memories.

Memory.
1. Couples First date.
2. Engagement.
3. Argument/ Fight scene.
4. Scene where the male gets knocked over and dies.

4. The fourth scene comes back to the present day, and I have Kate coming out from the bedroom which was where the second scene was left off at, coming down the stairs and getting the post. Amongst the post is a letter saying 'Follow your Heart'

Thoughts on Mise-en-Scene.

Scene 1 - Newcastle Millennium Bridge.
For this scene of my trailer, I will use a film camera as a prop, I want to create a kind of authentic quirky feel to my characters, by doing this I am introducing my second main characters passion and interest. I will also use suitable clothing which will illustrate to the audience what kind of style and personality the characters have.
For example I want Kate to be wearing a formal, yet fashionable attire. I think this will show her in a way that comes across that even though she is a serious woman, she's also a fun loving female who admires the way items of clothing are put together.

For my male character, I want to have a more casual look, since he is out and about taking photographs, and has just spotted a girl who looks beautiful and interesting ( Kate ) . I think this will look authentic, as they look like they should be there instead of somewhere else.

Scene 2 - House
For the scenes that will take place at the house, I want my main character to wearing something very casual like a night dress, since I plan to shoot her whilst she's in bed. I plan to use props such as the camera and a hand written note.

Scene 3 - Flashback & Memories
For this scene I plan to combine several memories of the couple, both sad and happy moments. I think the memories that I will include will be:

  1. the couples first date - coffee mugs, cup cakes, café
  2. the couples engagement - could take place at Newcastle where they first met? Engagement ring. Casual clothing, passerbys
  3. Argument in bedroom - Just normal bedroom furniture such as , desk, lamps, bed etc.
  4. Death of the male - Male, Car Lights.
Scene 4 - Post House scene.
Things that I will include in this scene will be normal house hold items, such as paintings and vases. I will also include the note in which Kate reads.

Newcastle + Coco Chanel = Memories.

This is the score which I will be using as part of the soundtrack for my trailer. In a way this is apart of my Mise - en Scene as I want the music to add an elegant and professional feeling to my trailer.

The reason why I admire this piece of music is because I find it very soothing and relaxing to listen to, which is what I want my viewers to be like when viewing my trailer. I also feel that it relates to the locations and characters in a way that will give the audience an idea of what kind of music and people they are like.

I plan not to play this music as loud in the background as it could be distracting, especially if I am laying sound effects, such as a camera clicking and voice overs over the top.

Storyboard

This is the storyboard for my trailer.

Sunday, 30 October 2011

This is the location that I will be using for the first part of my trailer where my two characters meet for the first time.

The location is in Newcastle, which is 10/15 minutes away from my house, so this means that is easily accessible when shooting, if I need to re shoot.

The reason why I picked this location was because I wanted to base my trailer in a city that is vibrant and very cosmopolitan.

I plan to use different shot types and cuts to show a photographer played by me taking a photograph of a passerby, who is the main character Kate, played by Ellen. I plan to have Kate drop her purse in front of the male character, he then goes to pick it up at the same she does and thats the moment where they fall in love.

I plan to play around with the colours of this scene, I think that turning it into black and white to illustrate that it is part of Kate's dream/ flash back. To bring the trailer back to reality, I will use a white flash with the sound of a camera shutter.

Monday, 17 October 2011

This is the first draft of my film magazine, I decided to make my film magazine a limited edition cover, where one features a female and the other a male. I have seen numerous film magazines do this, for example the star trek cover. This is to make more money, as fans of the film will want to own both covers instead of just one.

The idea of having two different covers is to target the different articles at a different spectrum of target audience. The target audience of this magazine cover is aimed at mainly females, where the other version would be targeted at mainly males.

Today was my first day shooting the beginning of my trailer, I really enjoyed it and I thought that I would upload my videos on here. I have took them in three different movies, due to me changing the angle and shot of the camera, to depend on the main focal point of the actor.

There might be some sections where my actress is laughing, especially in the first video, I plan to edit this out as I was trying to create a smooth and steady zoom, so I had to record longer to be able to get the swift movement....

Movie Poster Draft #1

This is the draft of my Movie Poster, for the font I have used Caviar Dreams as I think it is elegant and fits the theme of the movie.

For my movie title, I have gone with the title of 'Memories', the reason why I picked this title, is because the movie is about the memory of two loved ones, so this seemed the most appropriate.

Kate Rose Actor Update ....

Summer

This is Ellen, she will be playing the role of Kate Rose, instead of Bethan. The reason why I have replaced Bethan with Ellen, was because after reviewing my deadline of the final project, I thought it would be easier to have Ellen as my main actress as I am able to get her practically anytime I want, where as with Bethan I can only get her when all of her college work is complete.

At first I thought the idea of finding a new Actor/ Model would be challenging, but after finding Ellen I am pleased with my decision, as it will make the production of my trailer and relevant pieces easier to produce.

The reason why I have also picked Ellen, is because she has similar characteristics that the character Kate has, which is that she is quite quirky, she's beautiful and is fun, which is what Ellen is.

Leap Year Movie Poster Deconstruction....

I really like this film poster, as I think that the colours and the main image make the poster appear interesting and eye grabbing.

I like the way the poster uses a colour scheme of apple green, white and black. This has been done to make sure that none of the colours clash within the poster and procude an eye sore. I really like the way that the white contrasts against the green of the Adam's dress and Goode's clothes. This has been done so that the text stands out from the rest of the image, making it easier for the audience to see. I think that the colour green has many denotations, for example green could mean jealousy, this could be a hint at the story line, as the movie poster tells us that the character Adam is playing is about to get married. However the other character played by Goode is not her boyfriend, so it could be telling the audience that Goode is jealous of the other characters relationship, wanting to be in one with her. The colour green could also represent, that Adam has found love in Goode, who lives in Ireland.

I really like the photograph that has been used for this movie poster. The shot which has been used is a Medium longshot, as it cuts off at knees. The reason why this shot has been used is because I think the producer is trying to illustrate and play on the idea of having a perfect relationship, as it looks like a photograph which every happily married couple would have in their homes. In the film the character is portrayed as a hopeless romantic, this can be seen through this photograph by the way she is holding her engagment ring, with her hand on her chest looking like she is flattered. Where good looks like he isn't too sure about the whole situation, this can be seen through his facial expression.

The poster uses the usual conventions that a movie poster would use, for example it has the main movie title, with the movie credits and the actors names above it. The thing I like about this poster and I think it makes this one quite unique, is the black text at the top, I think that this tells us what the storyline is about without giving too much away.

For my own movie poster, I think I am going to incorporate a colour to symbolise something that the movie means. For example I could use the colour red to symbolise love and passion, or I could find another colour which symbolises mourning, since my main character loses the person she loves.

I also admire the contrasting colours of the white text, and I will definately be inculding this into my poster, as I think it is vital for a poster to look professional and appealing.

Film Magazine 1

Even though Star Trek isn't of a similar genre to my Trailer, I admire the colour scheme and the usual conventions that a music magazine should have.

I like the use of the black and white photograph which features a close up of the character. This is a bold image, which will attract the audience to buy this magazine. The colour of the photograph enables the magazine editor to use virtually any colour scheme they want.

The colour scheme in which they have decided to use is red, white and black. This colour scheme suits the target audience of the film, as the majority of the audience will be male, since it's an action packed film. For my film magazine, I would have to change the colour to a more feminine colour, such as purple, yellow, pink, aqua. This should attract the targeted audience.

The magazine uses the second biggest font size for the headline, this has been used to grab the audiences attention so that if they are looking for a particular film, they can notice it sticking out straight away. I also like the persuasive text that has been used as a slogan 'The Boldest and Coolest of 2009', this will make the audience reading the magazine feel like they are missing out on something important, so they will buy the magazine read upon the film to see if it is worth going to the cinemas or purchasing the film.

The magazine uses typical conventions of a film mahazine, such as the other sub headlines which gives the reader other information about movies and actors that have been included in that issue. Also the magazine tells us that they have done a special of 4 different covers, this could persuade Star Trek fanatics to buy all four.

Sex and the City Trailer - Establishing shot inspiration.

I really like the opening sequence for this trailer, as I like the way that the establishing shot of New York sets the main location of the movie.

I plan to incorporate this shot into my trailer, as I think it would make my trailer look more professional. The city in which I would choose would be Newcastle city, the reason why I think this would be my city of choice, is because I think it's a modern yet elegant city, with many oppertunities for shooting.

Target Audience

The target audience that my trailer and media will attract will be mainly female with a ratio of about 70:30 female to male ratio. The reason why I think this, is because I think my film will have a bigger diversion for women of a certain rather than most men.

The genre of my film also determines my target audience, as I think that more mature females will be able to relate to the romance within the trailer. I would say that the age range that my film would attract would be from 16-65+. The reason why I think this, is because I plan to produce it in an elegant and sophisticated manner that may not appeal to the younger generations.

I would say that the audience in which my film would attract, would be middle - working class, who spend their free time socialising, reading magazines and watching tv programs such as Desperate Housewives, Soaps and reality programs. I think that they are interested in romantic films such as Coco Avant Chanel, Priceless and others. They could also be romantics, who fantasize about being in love.

The social classes that my film would attract would be B,C1,C2,D and E, the reason why I think this is because I don't think the A social group will be interested in romantic films, I'd expect they'd be more interested in documentaries and action filled adventures.

Film Poster Flatplan

Images :-
The photograph, that I'm planning to use is a medium shot, the reason why I am using a medium shot is because it cuts out any unesecary detail with still keeping the focus on the two actors.

For my photograph, I am going to use a technique called a double exposure, which is where a photograph has been took ontop of another photograph, the reason why I am doing this is because a ghost like effect can be produced. This will be ideal for my poster, as it will illustrate what the basic plot of the story is without telling anyone in text. The photograph will symbolise that eventhough her partner is gone, he's still there with her in the heart, which is why he isnt completely faded.

Colour Scheme and Font :-
The colour scheme in which I am planning to use for my film poster will consist of three main colours, I think that I will use a monotonous colour scheme, as this will allow me to use any third colour, without clashing them. I like this idea, because I think that a colour scheme of black and white, looks classy and mature, which is the feel I want the audience to get when they look at my film poster.

I really like this font, I think that the style of this font links in with the feel of the poster and trailer.

This is a similar font to Champagne and Limousines, I really like this one as well. I like the style of the E's and I also like the spacing between the letters. I could use this title for my title, as it is easy to read.

I like this font, however I don't think I will use a font styled like this one as I think it looks quite child like, and will take the seriousness away from my trailer and poster.

Peer Feedback

I'm pleased that I have recieved feedback from my peers. I will take their comments into mind and make the changes to my blog, my main focus will be to expand on my first year of A level.

However, I don't agree with the second post note, I think that my plot line is easy to understand what is going on, and eventhough I am grateful for their feedback, I don't think they took their time to read my blog. But I will try and make it easier for everyone to understand.

Apart from that post note, I agree with all of the other feedback.

My Mood Board.
This is a mood board of inspirations and ideas that I have had for my A2 Media Project. I have been inspired by romantic films such as Breakfast at Tiffanys and Priceless etc. The reason why these films have inspired me to create a similar trailer featuring the conventions of a romantic genre film, is because I like the creativity that has gone into creating these films, I think I will be able to create and incorporate the elegance and creativity that is illustrated in these films.

Group Members / Production Company / Basic Plot.

Basic Plot
My trailer will start off with a couple in a coffee shop, a long shot will be used as an establishing shot as well as an introduction for the audience. A cut will be used to a close up, this will show the audience the two character’s relationship. I plan to experiment with saturations and colours to illustrate that the scene at the start is a dream. The frame will then fade out to white and cut to the present day of ‘Kate’ my main female character in bed. I zoom will be used to portray that the real world is coming down on my character. She then wakes up and picks up a piece of clothing belonging to her partner. A flash back will be used which will show happy memories ended with a scene of the partner being involved in a car crash. The rest of the trailer is about how the character learns to move on and finds comfort in someone who the audience wouldn’t expect, but finds happiness in the end.

Shot types that I'll use.

For the majority of my trailer I will be using long shots and medium shots, however I plan to use close up shots of my characters to show the relationship and passion between them.

Also in the beginning I plan to try and create an arial zoom shot, where the camera zooms in on my character from above. The reason why I want to use this is so that I can illustrate a sense of reality hitting 'Kate' my character.

Other editing effects I plan to use is fade outs and in, this is to show flash backs.

Trailer Brief

The brief I have chosen for my Media A2 coursework is the Film Trailer with two media products, which will be a Film Magazine and a film poster.

The reason why I have picked this brief is because I think it is an excellent opportunity for me to apply my photographic and creative eye to.

My film will be a hybrid, consisting of two main genres - Romantic and Drama. The reason why I have picked these is because, I think I will be able to create a beautiful storyline which flows fluently using shot types and editing.

Why I have picked Bethan to play the role as Kate...
I feel that Bethan looks like how I visualised the character to be. I also think that Bethan shares similar characteristics with Kate, so it will be easy for Bethan to become Kate when shooting. I also think that Bethan has a look which is desired by the occupation in which Kate works in.

Storyline as of 17/09/2011 (Beginning)

The beginning of my film will start off at a coffee shop where the couple first met, and they are enjoying themselves and being a typical couple. The trailer would then cut to the present time, where my model is lying in bed, and I would use a zoom to zoom into my model, this would symbolise that she could have been dreaming about past experiences, and also that reality is coming down on her.

She would then wake up, and realise that no one is next to her but an old piece of clothing belonging to her partner. She would then smell the piece of clothing intimately. I would then use a flash back to show special memories of the two, ended by what happened to her partner. Which is that they were involved in a crash, which will be achieved by shining headlights on my other character and cutting it sharply to my surviving character.

I am playing with ideas for the middle part, but I am planning to show how she copes with the loss of her love, and how she could maybe find a new one in someone who the audience wouldn't expect.

Coco Avant Chanel film poster.

I really like this film poster, as I love the masulinity that the character portrays in this photograph. The reason why this photograph is very masculine is because it is illustrating the actors portrayal of Gabrielle Chanel.

I love the emotion in this photograph, I think this has been done to attract passer-bys to look at it. I could incorporate a striking photography for my film poster, as this would attract attention to my movie.

I love the basic colour scheme of this poster, as I think it looks very elegant in monotonous colours, I think this could refelect the colour scheme that Chanel uses, which is black and white. I think this would attract a mature audience, as I think the colour scheme itself looks very mature and professional.

Tale of a Fairy by Karl Lagerfield

I really admire this video, as it is similar to what I want to produce. I love the fashion aspect of this video, I think that the techniques in the editing are beautiful. I love the scene where the party is a disaster, and the blonde female character meets the fairy, the fairy then claps and the frames are turned into black and white. The change into black and white, marks the same scene, but in a different situation. The party is then turned into a very elegant ball.

The reason why this short film is very fashionable and elegant is because it has been directed by Karl Lagerfield, my video will be on a smaller scale compared to this video, and my storyline will consist more of a romantic genre.

Photograph By Thomas Lormor
This is a montage of photographs that I took that inspire the thought of the kind of location I aspire to shoot my trailer in. I love the metropolitan, modern feel of Newcastle. My montage illustrates Newcastle's citizens and how time passes around them. I am inspired by this because I would like to incorporate time into my trailer by using editing effects such as freeze frame, slow motion etc.

I'm having a 'Breakfast at Tiffanys'

I love 'Breakfast at Tiffanys', it's another film that has inspired me to create a romantic/ comedy genre trailer. I think this film is very charming, and I think it gets the audience to sympathise with the main character played by Audrey Hepburn, as she longs for a life she simply can not afford. In a way Priceless my original inspiration is the modern day version of 'Breakfast at Tiffanys'.

This is the first inspirational piece for my trailer, I admire the romantic/ genre that has been chosen for this film. Personally I really enjoyed the film, I think it enchants the viewer with luxury lifestyle of the 'Gold Digger' Character Iréne, whilst it plays on our emotions and makes us sympathise with the poor waiter, who lusts after Iréne.

I love the classy music that is being played behind the voice over of the narrator. I would love to incorporate this into my own trailer, as I think it would give me the cosmopolitan feel that I am looking for.

Looking back on my first year of media.

Looking back on the first year of media, the parts that I particularly enjoyed were learning about the typical conventions that a media publication such as a magazine should include, also I loved creating my magazine and improving my skills in the 2D editing softwares, such as photoshop. I think that this has helped me a lot when progressing onto A2 Media studies, as the skills I gained in the first year will allow me to create a magazine and poster that I will be happy with early on in the project, and will enable me to create professional looking products without having to re edit them.

Front Cover of My Music
Magazine.
I am pleased with my B grade in Media Studies, I feel that I am reluctant that I had my coursework to boost my mark up, as I felt during the exam that it would be the exam that would hinder my mark over all. But I am pleased with my grade. For this year i plan to cover everything that could be included within the exam and the coursework project, as I am determined to maintain my B grade or even achieve an A grade. However I understand that to achieve an A, I will have to get pretty much perfect marks in my course work.

As for my product for the AS media studies I am pleased with peer feed back from another class, this has boosted my confidence in making me believe that I am able to produce I professional print product. All I need to do now is to apply my professionalism to my trailer.

This is my production task time management calendar, I will try and stick to my outlined dates as best as I can...
